Roles

we have a lots of great roles that offer a chance to get involved and be rewarded with new skills, connections, free accommodation and event T shirt at our events for the roles described below.

Each volunteer is also provided a allowance to help cover costs arriving and leaving the event as well as food & drink.

Course Marshal

Ensure the event track is clear of dangers & obstacles that will impact rider safety.

Using radio communications you will set up shop at any point of the track with a great view of the action whilst working with other event crew to report any happenings and opening & closing the track.

Finish Marshal

A race specific role you will ensure:

  • All racers cross the finish line.
  • Report results of heats back to the race manager.

Race Manager

A race specific role you will need to:

  • manage & maintain racing brackets
  • arrange racing heats, deal with protests
  • use a PA system to organise riders and update results consistently during the day with a laptop that has an internet connection.

 

Knowledge or a willingness to learn on how to update racing brackets & racing rulebooks will be a priority.

Start LIne Marshal

You will supervise the starting area and work with the chief steward to ensure riders are clear to descend the track.

  • Check all competitors helmet straps before any heats.
  • Responsible for monitoring start area and reporting any violations to the Chief Steward.

Chief Steward

Ensure the event track is clear of dangers & obstacles that will impact rider safety.

Using radio communications you will co-ordinate with course marshal’s as well as the starter & finish line marshal’s to ensure the event track is clear of obstacles and danger. 

Event Set Up Crew

Work with event staff to:

  • set up the event track with straw bale protection systems off a flat bed truck.
  • Ensure adequate positioning. 
  • Set up other event equipment.

Event Pack Up Crew

Work with event staff to:

  • pack up the event track with straw bale protection systems off a flat bed truck.
  • pack up other event equipment.

STAFF ACCOMMODATION YRDHF2024

We offer reserved staff accommodation for anyone who fills the shifts and roles below.

Your accommodation reservation will be offered at the sign up page on the job board section. All nights accommodation regardless of shift applied for will be reserved at the “St John’s Wesburn Recreation Reserve” which will serve as the event staff HQ.

You will be offered 2 nights reservation in relation to the shift and day you are applying. 1 night for before your shift and 1 night after your shift ends. We require you to stay at the accommodation at least for night before your shift starts to ensure you are up to date with the event happenings and arrive on time.

YRDHF will offer reserved staff & volunteers cabin style accommodation FREE of charge.

The venue will be booked out entirely for the event only.

Camping accommodation will be available for 4 nights from Thursday (14th of March) until Monday morning (18th of March). There will be amenities such as kitchens & toilets, showers available.

For volunteers & staff you will be offered 2 nights of accommodation for each shift meaning you get a night for your arrival and the night before your departure.

NEW PUMP TRACK

For the first time YRDHF24 will feature a brand new massive pump track particularly suitable for skateboard for your enjoyment after each event day. Right next to the riders & staff accommodation. So be sure to bring your skateboard !
